Dr Rex Riggs grew up in Wadsworth, Ohio, near Akron. He graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1985. Dr Riggs joined Dr Ritchie at Best Friends in 1988. He firmly believes continuing education is important, and consequently attends multiple veterinary conferences yearly. He has attended veterinary conference all over the world, including Australia, New Zealand and Scotland.
One of Dr Riggs’s favorite quotes is “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others”. He is a board member of the North Central Region of Canine Companions for Independence, and was awarded the 2010 John Warnock award recognizing their national volunteer of the year. He also serves on the board of The Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine Alumni Society as well as the Small Animal Advancement Board at the college. Dr Riggs also write a monthly blog on veterinary medicine for Embrace Pet Insurance and serves as their veterinary advisor. Dr Riggs has ridden 100 miles the last four years in Pelotonia, a grassroots bike tour with ONE GOAL: end cancer. 100% of the funds go to The James Cancer Hospital at OSU.
Dr Riggs lives in Lewis Center with his wife Nancy, their two CCI release dogs, Ossa and Bubba and their old cat Franklin. Outside of work Dr Riggs is an avid golfer, cyclist and enjoys fly fishing. He also loves to travel and enjoys photography.
