Every October ThisWeek News asks its readers to vote for their favorite business or service in over 100 categories. We are proud to announce that once again we have been chosen as one of the favorite local businesses in Columbus and Central Ohio. We want to extend our sincerest thanks to all of our clients! You make our success and level of care possible. It has been a wonderful 30 years offering superior client service and exceptional veterinary medicine to all of our wonderful canine and feline patients. We promise to continue offering this level of care for years to come. Thank you for your continued loyalty and trust.
When Trixie's heart failure became acute we told her owners to immediately take her to the College of Veterinary Medicine Veterinary Medical Center at The Ohio State University. While her condition was terminal, Trixie was able to live without pain or discomfort for another 12 weeks. As a result, Trixie's owners Karen Madden and Neil Toepfer started Trixie's Fund, a donation which helps social workers at the Honoring the Bond program to provide needed and valued services to pet owners.
Through random per chance meetings, including one with Dr. Ritchie who introduced the Parrish's to Dr. Riggs they were able to be placed with their Canine Companion. They are members of the North Central Regional Board of Canine Companions.

Every year, each Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) regional office submits a nomination for the Jack Warnock Volunteer Service Award. This prestigious national award is given to honor the outstanding volunteer throughout CCI's five regional locations. The nominees are reviewed and the winner is selected by CCI's National Board Members. This past weekend CCI's National Board met in Santa Rosa, voted and selected the nominee from the North Central Region, Dr. Rex Riggs, DVM
Here is an excerpt from his nomination:
"Dr. Riggs is a dedicated North Central Region Board Member and volunteer for Canine Companions for Independence. He has served on the North Central Regional Board a little over five years. Dr. Riggs outreach within Canine Companions for Independence spans from providing dog wellness checks specifically on the dogs that are close to being placed to educating each graduating class about dog care and grooming. Dr. Riggs even went as far as creating his own PowerPoint presentation to provide the best visual information possible to the individuals during their training at CCI. He has proven to be a wonderful resource for veterinary care for the North Central Region when we encounter unique medical complications.
Also, often our local graduates, staff and recipients of our release dogs are patients of Dr. Riggs because of his relationship with CCI and his demeanor not only with the dogs, but with people as well. He is a modest, caring individual and a strong advocate for CCI. Dr. Riggs not only touches those involved with CCI, but creates awareness for Canine Companions for Independence within the Central Ohio community. Dr. Riggs graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine...and began his career at Best Friends Veterinary Hospital, in Powell, Ohio in 1988. Dr. Riggs is co-owner of the Best Friends Animal Hospital. The North Central Region is both honored and proud to have Dr. Riggs as a part of our organization!
Congratulations, Dr. Riggs!
